The portal will, by default, show the Mean annual sampling effort for all available data on a 1° grid
bounded by 80.5°W, 30.5°N to 15.5°E, 69.5°N.
To limit the amount of data selected, drag the Years to select and Months to select selection sliders.
Older browsers and assistive technology,
will use a text input box, in which you enter the start and end values separated by a semicolon (e.g., 1980;2000
for the years 1980 to 2000).
As you change the bounds, the map will change to show averages for the selected period.
First, the data for the selected months is averaged by year, then the years are averaged overall.
If you select values in the Taxon selection tree, the display will change from
Sampling Effort to Abundance.
You may switch between the layers at any time, by selecting the appropriate layer in the layer selector in the top-right corner
of the map.
If you select multiple Taxa, only the first will actually be displayed online. The map title will show you which taxon is displayed.
However, if you choose to download the results, the corresponding shape file will contain all selected taxa.
The video icons () for Years to select and Taxon selection
can be used to trigger an animation, either displaying each selected year of the first selected taxon, or each taxon over
all selected years, respectively, for approximately two seconds for each slide.
